History of First Baptist Church of Little Falls
On August 18, 1892, First Baptist Church was birthed in a convened rail passenger coach car called "Evangel." This converted rail car served as the meeting place for twenty charter members, comprised of eleven individuals from the American Baptist Convention and nine who were part of a local group of Swedish immigrants. The community, familiar with the hardships of that era, witnessed seven adults being baptized in the Mississippi River during the fall and early winter of that year.
In 1893, the members made a significant decision to purchase the lot where the church stands today, and the original church building was constructed in 1895. Progress continued, and on April 15, 1951, ground was broken for a larger auditorium to accommodate the growing congregation.
The early sixties saw further expansion with the addition of an educational wing on the east side of the auditorium, providing greater office space, classrooms, and a larger nursery. This expansion was completed in 1964, with a dedication ceremony held on June 1 of that year.
Throughout its history, First Baptist Church has remained devoted to its biblical mandate: to preach the gospel and extend a loving invitation to all, fostering a spiritual home where families can grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
